3 bright moving lights over Lake Elsinore, Jan 6

Driving West this evening, about 7:30 pm, I saw three lights over the basin of Lake Elsinsore do a little dance in the sky. I wasn't alone observing this. The initial impression was of the meteor scene from the movie Dinosaur. There were three objects with trails and more than once one of the three would merge with another. I thought perhaps military helicoptors with lights, but I'm more inclined to believe it was a night parachuting activity, as the movement of the lights, and their proximity is consistent with parachutes.

I observed the lights on Scott Road, and lost them as Scott Road nears the large hill with the transmission towers. however, I thought one of the lights that I could still see while the other two were cut off by the silhouette of the hill appeared to wink out on it's own, though a pilot turned off his light or flare.

I'm eager to learn if others observed this.

I also saw the lights. I was on my way to play soccer at Arena Sports in Wildomar traveling via Bundy Canyon. The 3 lights moved in a circular motion, seeming to follow each other but not in a particular pattern. I was traveling with my Dad and when we arrived at our game, others had seen them as well. We saw the lights blink out, one by one. I did not look like planes or helicopters but could it possibly of been hang gliders with flares? Maybe parachuters...

Just saw one light split into three in the distance from palomar road in MURRIETA at 940pm. The lights disappeared suddenly after about 3 minutes. Can't figure out what it could be!

We saw it too! We saw it twice this evening. A few minutes after disappearing, the Elsinore Skydive plane flew over our house, but without any navigation lights on. Very strange! Glad someone else witnessed this too!

Saw it, we were at the Costco off of the 74, saw what looked like a falling star that broke into three. The falling star was headed straight down, but when it broke into three, they changed course and appeared to head North towards us. After a little while, they burned out, one by one...

I saw the same this with my girlfriend and her family. We saw 3 lights just hovering in one spot and kind of swaying back and forth sometimes merging together. They had a short trail that followed them when they moved. We saw them for about a minute. When they disappeared it was like a flare going out but one went out then the other then the last one went out, all within seconds of each other.im glad to see someone else saw what we saw hope someone can give us an explanation on what we saw.

Yes!! I had a lot of family come over this evening for dinner.. and around that time my cousin called a few of us outside to point out some lights.

However, they explained (they were outside earlier than us) that it first was a single light that was orange/red in color (like fire), which split into 3 BRIGHT vivid lights in a triangular shape. At first we assumed it was a meteor that split.. however the triangular shape was consistent and stayed in place for a few moments, then each light turned off.

My question is.. if it was parachuters.. why would they turn their lights off after a while?

And that same question goes for hangliders. Why would the lights suddenly fade?

I don't believe there were any obstacles to hide them from our view point..
(of course they could be fooling with us and just turn them off. Lol.)

But what a trip nonetheless.

We just saw a falling light at about 9:45pm Jan 6 2011 , we first thought to be a comet, just to separate in to 3 lights and stay suspended in the air in a triangular fomation for about 4 minutes then star to travel from north to south and then dis appear in a blink of an eye not like fading but just gone! This was witnessed by 5 other people.

Just saw them at about 9:45pm tonight January 6, 2011. Driving south on I15. White lights with long trail that separated into 3 lights in a triangle formation. They then hovered in the sky for well over 2 minutes. Then all three just vanished as though they were very rapidly moving away or just gone. Cannot explain this but there were many cars pulling off on the side of the freeway to watch the show.

A friend of ours observed what you saw at 7:30pm on the 15 fwy.

We live in Lake Elsinore, and our backyard faces south of the lake, and at about 9:45pm this evening, my husband & I noticed 3 fireballs fall from the sky and hover in the sky for at least 1 minute before quickly dimming out and disappearing. We are totally freaked out right now! Have never seen anything like this in our lives.

gI am from Wildomar and I to saw the 3 lights your talking about. My first impression was airplanes, but as I stared more at them I realized they were wider lights than an airplanes. I think they were UFO's for sure

I live in lake elsinore and i was the stater brothers store at four corners around 930 pm tonite and saw them too. The formation of the lights was too steady to be night parachuters. And the fact that they vanished suddenly.

I live in Wildomar and saw the lights too, someone has video of it. The footage is on CBS news. Apparently it was parachutists doing a night jump.
